Mad Scientist Journal will be discontinuing our journal in early 2020. The existing books won’t be going anywhere. Just the regular weekly features you’ve come to know and love will end as of April 2, 2020 and no new books will be produced after that time.
We will still publish I Didn’t Break the Lamp and three more quarterly magazines. Our final submission period for the magazine will be in June 2019. DefCon One Publishing, which we publish MSJ under, will continue to exist and will still put out other books. Just not under the Mad Scientist Journal label. We are working out some of the long term logistics, but we intend to keep the existing MSJ books in print for the foreseeable future.
There are a lot of factors that led to this decision, but the primary reason is just time. We hire out a little bit of the work, but a large chunk of the workload falls on just Dawn and I. We no longer have the bandwidth to keep the magazine moving forward. We’re sad, but feel this is the right call to make. We’d rather finish strong with a plan than disappear unexpectedly.
If you’d like to follow us elsewhere, you may find us at the links below. We’ll continue maintaining social media and the Patreon for Mad Scientist Journal up till the end, but some people like options early.

Absolutely heartbroken to hear this. Have read some really interesting, unique, and beautiful stories here. Best of luck with the rest of your projects 🙂
Nooooo. This was the first magazine that liked one of my works to publish it. I’m really sad to see it go.
I know it’s a tough decision to let something go, but good for you guys for knowing when it’s time. Like many, I’ll be sad to see it go — but the awesome work you’ve done on it already isn’t going anywhere! Good luck with the next phase!
(Not enough coffee this morning, and I misspelled my own name, lol 😉
